The iconic photovoltaic (PV) panel is arguably the most recognizable symbol of renewable energy worldwide. Photovoltaic panels work by turning the energy of sunlight into DC electricity through a process known as thethe photoelectric effect.

Each PV panel is made up of a multitude of smaller PV cells, combining their individual small electric outputs into a larger output on each panel. The electric output of each panel is then combined with the outputs of the other PV panels to produce a large system-wide output.

The number of panels used will depend on a number of factors, such as available roof space and size of the grid connection to the house. These factors often result in a system with 15-40 panels. Each measures about 3.5' x 7' which translates to an area of 350 sq ft and 1,000 sq ft.

Step 1 | Book an assessment

Each of our projects begins with a quick conversation between you and a member of our assessment team to find out which solar products are the right fit for your home. We need to find out about your current household energy systems, and take a peek at your roof using our state of the art satellite imagery software.

Once we have an idea of what your needs are, we will work with you to find a time when you are home to come and meet with you in person, and take some measurements.

 

Step 2 | Solar Assessment

Most houses are good candidates for solar power, although, there are always exceptions. Our solar assessment experts will find and resolve any issues during the site visit. 

Once site visit is complete, we’ll take our information back to the Doctor Solar headquarter to commence designing a custom system, tailored to your specific needs.

 

Step 3 | Sign Contract

Once we’ve crunched the numbers, we will send you a design and installation proposal that’s tailored to your home. After you’ve approved the proposal and signed a contract, it’s time to book an install.

Step 4 | Book the Install

Once you've signed a contract, its time to book an install. We will work with you to find a time when you can be at your home while we install your solar system. The majority of solar racking and panel installations take only one day to complete, which is nice as it means that you won't have to disrupt your schedule too much to accommodate us.

 

Step 5 | System Installation

Our crew will arrive at your home in the morning to greet you and get the install underway. The crew supervisor will explain what we intend to do throughout the day and find out if you have any specific rules you would like us to follow while working around your home. Every install begins with a comprehensive site check and safety assessment, ensuring our awareness of the specific environment.

We will start by installing temporary roof anchor points, which act as attachment points for our fall arrest gear. The rest of the day is spent installing the panels, the line run, and doing any plumbing or electrical work required.

 

Step 6 | Commission the System

Now that the system is installed, its time to fire it up, go over our work with you and answer any questions about the system that you might have. We take this opportunity to show you what you need to know to get the most out of your system and go through the warrantee documentation and user manual with you.

Monitoring your site

It can be challenging to keep an eye on the health of your solar PV system.  Without knowing how much power your array is producing, or having access to historical information, the best you can do is sift through your power bills and try to figure out if your system is performing as expected. That's where Doctor Solar's monitoring systems come into play.
